Eighty percent of Americans will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their lives. Many people do not know where to look to find the best treatment for lower back pain so they continue to suffer through their days and nights. Help is just a phone call away to schedule an appointment with a specialized back chiropractor!

Chiropractors have helped millions of people with low back problems, often saving them from pain, disability, drugs, and surgery. It has been proven that chiropractic treatment (spinal manipulation and spinal decompression therapy) are among the most preferred and most effective methods of care for acute adult low back pain. Extended bed rest (more than four days) has been found to be harmful, and that muscle relaxants and surgery can be unnecessary and, in some cases, harmful.

In addition to chiropractic care, here are a few suggestions that will help prevent certain types of low back pain from even devoping:

  • Stand up – Stand with shoulders pulled back, weight distributed evenly on both legs, and the correct alignment for the head, neck and upper spine.
  • Sit properly -- The personal computer age means we tend to slump forward, for which the payoff is bad posture, lack of work for the core muscles and a lower back pain pandemic. Get up and walk around regularly.
  • Sleep well – As we sleep, our backs release the stress accumulated during the day, and the force that our body weight places on the spine is greatly reduced. Make sure your mattress is in good condition and not causing more pain as you sleep.
  • Stretch -- Strengthening and stretching the muscles surrounding the spine - the core stability muscles - is vital.
  • Get coordinated – A strengthening program and a coordination workout consisting of balance exercises will result in low back pain diminishing significantly
  • Chill out -- Many sufferers of low back pain are victims of tension myositis syndrome, whereby stress and repressed anger cause the brain to lessen blood supply to the lower spine. No exercise is required; address the anger issues.

What is the best treatment for lower back pain? Spinal decompression therapy may be the right answer for you! It’s a non-invasive method of working with the body to restore proper function and health and is a leading alternative health approach. By restoring correct alignment to the structure of the spine, nerve involvement is reduced or eliminated, reducing your pain and allowing the body to heal itself naturally.

The specialized back chiropractors at McKim Chiropractic may recommend the DRS Protocol™, a non-surgical spinal decompression therapy, for patients who suffer from back pain associated with spinal and disc problems. Before prescribing a course of treatment, you will be given a thorough examination to determine whether you are a candidate for the DRS Protocol™ Therapy.
