We have just come through a season which causes a lot of stress for many people. Parties, shopping, interrupted meal schedules, and emotional family gatherings are all causes of stress. This stress has the potential to threaten the health of your spine, causing back pain or neck pain. Give the gift of massage and chiropractic therapy to yourself! When chiropractic therapy and massage therapy are used in conjunction with each other, the whole person is treated with natural, hands-on, and drug-free techniques.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that stress has become a way of life for a lot of people today. Living with chronic stress can lead to anxiety, depression, and even serious health problems. In addition to seeking chiropractic therapy, there are ten stress-relieving tips that you can practice on a daily basis in less than 15 minutes. Here we discuss the first five tips:

1. Meditate. Research indicates that daily meditation may make you more resilient to stress by redirecting the brain's neural pathways. Close your eyes and focus your attention by reciting (out loud or silently) a positive thought, scripture verse, or other inspirational quote for a few minutes. Don't let the worries of the day distract you.

2. Breathe. Take a 5-minute break during the day and focus on your breathing to help slow your heart rate and lower blood pressure. Sit up straight, eyes closed. Slowly inhale through your nose, feeling the breath start in your abdomen and work its way to the top of your head. Reverse the process as you exhale through your mouth.

3. Slow Down. Focus for about five minutes on one action or activity--enjoy the texture and taste of each bite of food; take a walk and look at the clouds and blue sky, feel the wind in your face, and smell the roses. .

4. Call a Friend. Share what's going on—preferably face to face or on the phone. You can get a fresh perspective while keeping your connection strong.

5. Listen to Your Body. Mentally assess your body to get a sense of how it is affected by stress. Lie on your back, or sit with your feet on the floor. Start at your toes and work your way up to your scalp, noticing how your body feels. Take deep breaths and imagine it flowing to each body part, paying close attention to the sensations you feel.

Chiropractors are experts in the care of the bones, nerves, muscles and connective tissues that make up about 60% of your body. This encompasses many physical problems including headaches, back and neck pain. These irritating, yet formidable conditions just don't respond well to medical treatment. Ironically, they are generally the result of physical trauma, and no one reverses physical trauma better than a chiropractor.

The nervous system is the "master system," controlling every function within our body. Physical trauma results in many diseases. Imagine if chiropractors were used as gatekeepers in hospitals and clinics everywhere, and given the opportunity of checking each patient for subluxations before they were given medications or other aggressive tests and procedures. If subluxations were found, a course of chiropractic adjustments could be administered for a period of time. Not only would this have the potential of circumventing many unnecessary medical procedures, it would cut down on dangerous adverse reactions to trial drugs, while providing financial savings to the patient.

Happy New Year! It's the beginning of a new year and many people are making resolutions to improve their lifestyle. What's on your list--exercise more, lose weight, stop smoking, get out of debt, save more money? Possibly finding the right doctor for chiropractic services who will help you attain your personal health goal is one of your New Year's resolutions. Finding the appropriate chiropractor services is crucial for your overall health and well-being.

The primary criteria for choosing chiropractic services should not be location, an eye-catching sign, or an ad in the phone directory. Here are some suggestions and factors to consider when choosing the chiropractor services that fit you:

Your brain "talks" with the rest of your body through a vast communication system mostly made up of nerves. A shoulder chiropractor explains it this way--your nerves come out of your brain in a large bundle called the spinal cord, travel down your back inside your spinal column and then exit at different levels. Some nerves exit from your neck to go to your throat, thyroid, larynx, trachea, heart and arteries, while others exit your lower or mid-back to go to your lungs, bronchi, pancreas, intestines, spleen, adrenals, liver, legs, bladder, kidneys and other organs to help them function properly. Some nerves go straight to their destination and others first form nerve networks called a "plexus."

You have a number of these nerve plexuses in your body--the cervical plexus on each side of your neck; your brachial plexus near your shoulders; and the solar plexus near your stomach. There are many, many others, both large and small.  If you would like a more detailed explanation, a chiropractor for shoulder problems will be happy to answer your questions.
